IHG targets 40 Regent hotels worldwide. Announced addresses include Regent Bora Bora, Regent Sanya Haitang Bay and Regent Riyadh KAFD (2027), Regent Kyoto, Regent Karuizawa and Regent Shenzhen Bay (2028), Regent Melbourne and Regent Ho Tram (2030), plus Regent Kuala Lumpur. Why is Regent positioned above InterContinental?
Both brands belong to IHG Hotels & Resorts, but they play different roles. InterContinental is IHG’s largest luxury brand, with more than 200 hotels. Regent sits at the top end of IHG’s luxury segment, with 11.
The clearest proof is Hong Kong. The former InterContinental Hong Kong on the Victoria Harbour waterfront reopened in 2023 as Regent Hong Kong. IHG took one of its most famous InterContinental hotels and moved it up to Regent.
